A Brief History of our Beginning
Presbyterian services were first held in Chesapeake City, on or about April 27, 1857 in the Academy. A regularly constituted Church, consisting of eight members and styled the “First Presbyterian Church of Chesapeake City” was organized by a committee of the Presbytery of Wilmington ( now called New Castle Presbytery) on Sunday, November 1, 1857. Presbyterian Church occupies a lot of ground given for the purpose, by Robert Polk, Esq. It was erected and furnished at an expense of about $2,500.00 and was dedicated to the service of God on Sunday, January 8, 1860.
